We seek peace ahead of 2015 General Election

There are lot of preparations towards the general election. While people have been advised to stock their home with food, others think, it is best to stay-put at their comfort zone during this period

Nigeria is a blessed and great nation, coming from the perspective of how hard, we have strived to conquer division among regions, and also on how hard we fought for a democratic system from the military rulers.

But today a lot has changed, we frown at the unstable electricity in the country, the level of corruption, the celebrated bad leaders, bad roads, incessant insurgent attacks and the fall of naira, which has affected the price of goods and services negatively.

At this point our greatest interest in Nigeria is the general election. Whether we support continuation or change. We should try as much as possible to shun election violence.

Election-related violence is understood as violence against people, property or electoral process. It brings death and self condemnation. " the impact of a day of global ceasefire and non violence cannot be underestimated- Jeremy Gilley"

Lets take a quick glance at the post election violence in Kenya 2007- 2008, where the opposition supporters of the incumbent President Nwai Kibaki, went on a violent rampage destroying properties and killing innocent people in all part of the country.

Philippine in 2004-2007, more than 300 people, including journalists were killed in election related violence. Leaving Philippines' notoriety as the most dangerous country in the world for journalist next to Iraq.

So let's help support our nation's progress by putting aside our diversity in Religion, Ethnicity and Culture.
We should also put an end to this power struggle among regions and embrace ourselves as one nation. "Non-violence is not a garment to be put on and off at will. It's seat is in the heart, and must be an inseparable part of our being- Mahatma Gandhi."

Election isn't a do or die affair, do not sell your vote, cast your vote without intimidation and fear, and at all cost ensure a peaceful atmosphere.
Countries like South Africa in April 2004,  and Mali shortly after the coup in 2012 had peaceful elections.

Benefits of peaceful elections are:
We seek peace. War brings outrage of extreme poverty, with thousand of people displaced and traumatized. Not leaving out killings, looting, destruction and damage of property.

So we campaign for Vote and not violence, because "at the center of non- violence stands the principle of love - Martin Luther King Jr."
