Workers as hustlers

The day's job just ended and Enitan was already looking frustrated as usual " how long will this continue for? Me I do tire ojare, she said"
Before I could say "wait for me,let's close together",  she grabbed her bag and hurried home.

Enitan is 21 years, works as an office assistant and she's paying her way through school. She used to live with her brother who kicked her out.

She moved in with her parent, who lived in the outskirt of Lagos. She knew immediately, she couldn't stay there, "my salary won't cover my transportation, she thought"

She needed another option desperately because she could barely make a savings and cope with the distance between her workplace and home. Letting go with this job wasn't part of her option, she needed to find another place to keep her head.

Her regular phrase was " I must make am"

Her solution came when she ran into her friend, who had a shop close to our office. She saw this as an opportunity.

She moved in. while she was there, she took her bath as early as 3:30am, not minding the cold, but to avoid people seeing her
I couldn't understand why she was going through all this wahala. To me, it was too much trouble to endure, but then "No food for lazy man"

My friend Efe on the other hand, lives in her office and only goes home weekend. She doesn't experience the heavy traffic on 3rd mainland bridge and Lagos as a whole. She calls herself the lucky one, I call her a refugee.

My little cousin just joined the league, barely a month old in the game and she's complaining already. She leaves the house 4am and gets back 9pm. " person fit cook beans for this Apapa traffic oh, she explained"

How can I forget Michael, my brother's friend, who is on "the street" as he loves to tell people. A typical example of Jack of all trades, he does all sorts of legal jobs to raise money and even calls himself the "solution provider"

Our cleaner Aishat, treks half way after work everyday before entering the bus, to cut down cost, " what will I do again na! I must have a savings oh or why am I working?" She said.

These people represent individuals that believes, there is dignity in labour. Millions of people out there,  try so hard to put food on the table. I have to skip meals sometimes, while some takes to fasting, "what to do again" in the life of a hustler.

Determination, hardwork and the grace of God is the key to success.
Like Enitan will always say "forget the suffer, when the money comes, we will all be happy
 And I agree.
