This is not about a movie and it is not a joke either. This is just a time to reminisce on all the activities, development and changes around our lives as human beings.
This is not based on any religious or tribal differences.
It is a time to ask ourselves question. it is time for our innermost subconscious mind, come in contact with our conscience and ask ourselves "Are we there yet"
Some years back, only the rich could afford a telephone set, but today virtually everybody own a mobile telephone. Does this mean the problem of communication has been solved?
Calls are still expensive, nobody seems to be doing anything about it, instead people have settled for other options, like flashing, sending "call me back sms" e.t.c.
To make it worse, your telecommunication provider can just deduct your air-time and give you flimsy excuse for doing it, and we are okay with it.
Please what is the job of NCC?
Broad band! Too expensive and only covers limited areas and we say we are the giant of Africa!
Businesses seems to be going online now with the wide spread of smart phones to target larger audience
Then we have E-commerce, online shopping portals, trading portals for easy transactions.
Let's ask ourselves if this aim has been achieved. You shop online and when you get your item, it is of low quality or of bad condition sometimes. Returning the item and getting your money back becomes taxing.
Is this our idea of a healthy transaction?
We all heard of the family whose sons were kidnapped recently. It is even disheartening to know that the nanny/ kidnapper was employed from a popular online trading portal, which people use for fraudulent activities.
This leaves me wondering, if it is the fault of the parents of these kids for trusting our "so called innovation" or that of the trading portal for not verifying the advert placement on their site.
Is there a body / regulator for these our numerous shopping and trading portals online. They need to be checked.
Talking of regulatory bodies. Does National Broadcasting Commission(NBC) and Broadcasting Organization of Nigeria (BON) still exist in this country?
I used to think the role of NBC was to determine what is proper for broadcasting, that is the quality and message of the content transmitted to the audience.
It baffles me, how those sponsored interviews were allowed to run for a long time, on a particular private station during the election.
We all know it was an attempt to discredit some politicians, but what happened to Code and Ethics of Broadcasting/Journalism?
I can go on and on...
I am not trying to be negative, we need to get things right.
Maybe our mind-set need to be developed to see things differently. We need to speak for ourselves not hide under our busy schedule.
Let's explore our opportunities, as this will lead to greater development.
I was excited about the first elected female governor of Nigeria, until the story changed.
If only we can get things right genuinely, all will be at our own advantage.
